چکیده

The veterinary use of radionuclide techniques dates back to the mid-sixties [1, 2], but its more extensive use dates back to the past two decades. In Central and Eastern Europe, it is still in its infancy with only one large research centre, in Budapest, Hungary. Veterinary nuclear medicine is focused mainly on four major issues: bone scintigraphy — with the majority of applications in horses, veterinary endocrinology — dealing mainly with the problems of hyperthyreosis in cats and hypothyreosis in dogs, portosystemic shunts in small animals and veterinary oncology, however, most radionuclide techniques applied to humans can be applied to most animals. There is little awareness of the usefulness of radionuclide studies in veterinary practice among the nuclear medicine community. Therefore, we decided to describe some of its applications.

Scintigraphic evaluation of abomasal emptying rate in neonatal suckling lambs

Evaluation of gastric emptying rate using nuclear scintigraphy as the gold standard method has been studied in various animals, but there is no report in suckling lambs. The aim of this study was to develop a nuclear scintigraphic method to visualize and measure abomasal emptying rate by estimation of scintigraphic half emptying time (T1/2) in the live neonatal lamb. Five healthy, female Irania...

Adenovirus-like inclusion body hepatitis in a flock of broiler chickens in Kermanshah province, Iran

Inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) has been reported in many countries in the world. The IBH or similar cases characterized by hepatitis and presence of intra-nuclear inclusion bodies in hepatocytes have not been reported in broiler chickens in Iran. This is the first report on outbreak of adenovirus-like inclusion body hepatitis in Iran. On October 2012, an onset of high acute mortality in a flock...

Dimethyl itaconate protects against lipopolysaccharide-induced endometritis by inhibition of TLR4/NF-κB and activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway in mice

Objective(s): Endometritis is the inflammation of the uterine lining that is associated with infertility. It affects milk production and reproductive performance and leads to huge economic losses in dairy cows. Dimethyl itaconate (DI), a promising chemical agent, has recently been proved to have multiple health-promoting effects. However, the effects of DI on endometri...

Atrazine in sub-acute exposure results in sperm DNA disintegrity and nuclear immaturity in rats

This study was designed to evaluate the detrimental effect of atrazine (ATR) on germinal epitheliums (GE) cytoplasmic carbohydrate (CH) and unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) ratio and to clarify the effect of ATR on serum levels of FSH, LH, testosterone and inhibin-B (INH-B). The impact of ATR exposure on total antioxidant capacity (TAC), sperm DNA packing and integrity were also investigated. Seve...
